Located in Biarritz/Anglet in France, Biarritz Grande Plage is a quality beach break that offers a variety of waves depending on the conditions. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom. The waves can be fat and rolling at times or sucky and closing out at others.
What are the best surf conditions for Biarritz Grande Plage?
It gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when the waves are smaller and a shortboard or step-up when more swell arrives. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers depending on the waves. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will generally be quite crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the north, northwest, and west. It works best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, a 5/4 wetsuit is the call when water temperatures drop to 12°C (54°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
