Located in Biarritz/Anglet in France, La Madrague is a fun beach break that serves up some crisp walls perfect for manoeuvres. The sand here shifts constantly, making it a challenging break to predict. The waves break over a sand bottom for about 100 meters (328 feet).
What are the best surf conditions for La Madrague?
It gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when the waves are smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and can get quite crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the east. The best swells are from the north, northwest, and west. It works on low and mid tides only.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, a 5/4 wetsuit is the call when water temperatures drop to 12°C (54°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
