Located in Biarritz/Anglet in France, La Barre is a half-decent beach break that used to be amazing but has since suffered from jetty construction. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a sand bottom, providing some fun sections for manoeuvres. Watch out for pollution.
What are the best surf conditions for La Barre?
It gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when the size steps up. The break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is usually breaking (5/10) and can get quite crowded (8/10). The best winds are from the east. The best swells are from the north, northwest, and west. It works best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, a 5/4 wetsuit is the call when water temperatures drop to 12°C (54°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
