Located in Kadavu Passage, Fiji, Vunaniu is an excellent reef break that holds two right hand peaks. The first and outside one is called Shifties and breaks at size offering up a powerful pocket but quick drop off at the shoulder. Good for big cutbacks and carves. The inside peak called Jays is a full on shallow reef barrel, which needs a high tide to start working. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Vunaniu?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Outside works on all tides inside likes a high.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini all year. Water temperatures stick between 27 and 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
