Located in Kadavu Passage right in front of the Hideaway Resort, Hideaway is a nasty little reef right, with a sucky rip draining the reef. The waves here are a bit mean, and barrel for up to 100 meters over a sharp reef. A good honeymoon surf spot; bond with your bride by by having her squeeze lime juice on your reef cuts. The Hideaway Resort is there with the Kava nights and the honeymoon suite.
What are the best surf conditions for Hideaway?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard then step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the North, and it cannot handle Southeast trades. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini all year. Water temperatures stick between 27 and 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
