Located in South San Diego County, California, Del Mar Rivermouth is a fickle but decent river mouth that offers up some well-shaped waves when the sandbars line up. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sandy bottom. Water quality can be an issue as this spot is best when the river mouth is open.
What are the best surf conditions for Del Mar Rivermouth?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will always have a crew when working (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
