In the South of San Diego County in Southern California, you will find Point Loma. This is a very fun point break that peels over a boulder covered bottom. The waves here are really good on their day, breaking for up to 300 meters offering up nice clean rolling waves. No access by foot, you must take a boat to the break.
What are the best surf conditions for Point Loma?
Gets good between head high and triple overhead. We recommend a shortboard here or a step up. Point Loma is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and usually has a crew (6/10). The best winds come from the North, Northwest, and West. The best swells come from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works best on a high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to a warm 20 degrees. In winter a 4/3 is best when water temps drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
