Located in South San Diego, California, Del Mar Beach is a peaky beachie that offers up some fun peaks when the conditions line up. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sandy bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Del Mar Beach?
Gets good between waist-high and head-high. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will get busy but there are many peaks (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 20 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 15 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
