Located in Mendocino County, California, Gualala is a fun river mouth set-up that offers up some fun walling rides when the sandbars are good. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom. Enter on the South side of the river mouth through the park.
What are the best surf conditions for Gualala?
Gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard if bigger. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (5/10) and will get busy on weekends (5/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a mid to low-tide best.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 here in the summer. In the winter a 5/4 is best. Water temperatures range between 10-14. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
