Previously known as the Nusantara, “Samudra Biru” means “Blue Ocean.” This surf charter is one of the fastest and nicest catamarans in the Mentawai Islands, and every year undergoes consistent upgrades for comfort, safety, and performance. It is 70ft long, 22ft wide, and powered by twin 420hp Cummins turbo diesel engines. She has a top speed of 15+ knots, with an average daytime cruising speed of 8-12 knots depending on conditions, and a nighttime cruising speed of 8-10 knots (for safety). The vessels catamaran hull design provides stability at sea and eliminates rock and roll at anchor. To the guests great benefit, the speed gets you to the spots faster, so that you spend more time surfing and less time waiting to get there. It’s stability means great comfort in your ride, and great sleep at night. Samudra Biru has a range of 1000 nautical miles, and does not need to refuel during a trip even with significant motoring around at its fastest speeds throughout the Mentawais Islands.

The Indonesian Captain Ateng is considered a legend with well over 200 surf charter trips. Plus, he is also a surfer and has intimate knowledge of the spots, when they work best, and where to go to escape the crowds. The Samudra Biru’s owner/operators are American surfers who openly share their vast knowledge of the ins and outs of each spot, from wind and tide, to the coral bottom, and what spots are best suited for your skill level. The boat has the reputation for always being in the right place at the right time.
Accommodation on board sleeps 10 guests comfortably in 10 sleeping berths, including 2 double cabins. Each berth has full seating headroom and above-water windows. The entire interior is air conditioned and carpeted throughout. There are 2 bathrooms with fresh and salt showers and two fresh water showers on the stern swim steps. You will enjoy your Mentawai sojourn in true comfort with little else to want or need. The main salon features panoramic views with ample seating for all. Relaxing entertainment is provided by a large flat-screen TV, DVD, and Stereo with iPod compatibility. The Shaded aft and forward decks provide escape from the sun, while still enjoying the outdoors and sea breeze along with 24-hour access to cold/hot drinks and snacks. The surf rack holds 30 boards, also in the shade, protecting your gear from the sun. The rear deck includes the galley (kitchen) with complete refrigeration and freezer system for fresh food and beverage service and the dining area.
Three square meals are served daily with breakfast available for pre-surf as well as after surf. Items to choose from include fruit, toast, cereals, pancakes, french toast, eggs, coffee and juice. A typical lunch might be sandwiches, burgers, noodles and rice dishes with fish or chicken. Dinners includes fresh caught fish, spaghetti, curried beef and chicken and stir fry veggies and sashimi. You will never go hungry in-between meals with a variety of snacks such as chips, chocolate bars and cookies. Included in your charter are 5 beers a day. If you think you’ll want more, you can stock up on extra in port.
Samudra Biru is equipped with all the most modern and up-to-date safety and navigational equipment including GPS, radar, depth sounder and VHF radio. There a Satellite phone onboard and remains in constant communication with the partners in the States for regular swell and wind updates. Also, the phone can receive free incoming calls from family. Accompanying the vessel is a Jet Ski and a pro photographer to capture all the fine moments of surfing and adventure. The two tenders include an 18 ft. aluminum speedboat with 65 hp Yamaha outboard and a 12 ft. inflatable with 15 hp Yamaha outboard. Split up you group into alternate surf spots if the area allows, and get to and from the mother ship quickly. The tenders can also be used for excursions to the beaches and islands for exploring local villages and culture, as well as fishing and snorkeling trips.
