Located in Sumba, Indonesia, Racetrack is a quality left-hand reef setup that offers up a steep drop into a throaty barrel section, then a wall for turns. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 150 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Racetrack?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is decently consistent (6/10) and will always have a crew (7/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest and West. Works best on mid-tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round here. Water temperatures rise to 28 degrees in the summer before dropping only to 25 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
