Located on the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, Hosta is an excellent beach break that offers up some good sections for manoeuvres. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Soft when small but can get serious with size.
What are the best surf conditions for Hosta?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North, Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 14 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 9 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
