Located in La Côte Basque in France, Hendaye Plage is a fun beach break that offers up some great sections for turns and hacks when it’s good. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Hendaye Plage?
It gets good from waist-high to double overhead. This spot is perfect for longboarders and beginners when the waves are smaller and great for shortboards when the size steps up. The break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here usually has waves (5/10) and can get ridiculously crowded due to a couple of surf schools (9/10). The best winds are from the south. The best swells are from the northwest, north, or west. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, a 5/4 wetsuit is the call when water temperatures drop to 12°C (54°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
