Located in La Côte Basque, France, Erretegia is a fun beach break that serves up some great easygoing sections perfect for longboarding. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom, although there are a couple of submerged rocks.
What are the best surf conditions for Erretegia?
It gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when the waves are smaller and a shortboard when the size picks up. This break is perfect for beginners, and intermediate and advanced surfers will also have some fun. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will always have a crew on it (7/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the north, northwest, and west. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, a 5/4 wetsuit is the call when water temperatures drop to 12°C (54°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
