Located in Gironde, France, Soulac is an excellent beach break that produces impressive barrels when the conditions are right. The waves here can be challenging and break for up to 50 meters (164 feet) over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Soulac?
It gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard most days and a step-up board when the waves get big. This break is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers who are very fit, as the currents can be strong. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will attract a crew when the waves are good (7/10). The best winds are from the southeast. The best swells are from the northwest, southwest, and west. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, with temperatures dropping to 11°C (52°F), a 5/4 wetsuit is best. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
