Located in Gironde, France, Le Porge is an excellent beach break that delivers good waves more days than not. The waves here can be challenging to surf, breaking for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a sand bottom. When conditions are favorable, the waves provide great sections for maneuvers and barrels.
What are the best surf conditions for Le Porge?
It gets good from waist-high to double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when the waves are smaller and switching to a shortboard as the size increases. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is fairly consistent (6/10) but can get extremely crowded due to its proximity to Bordeaux (9/10). The best winds are from the east. The best swells are from the northwest, southwest, and west. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21°C (70°F). In winter, temperatures drop to 11°C (52°F), making a 5/4 wetsuit the best choice. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
