Located on the Wild Coast of South Africa, Umdumbi is an excellent point break that offers up a high-performance right-hander in a rural location. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 250 meters (820 feet) over a rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Umdumbi?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then stepping up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the West. The best swells are from the South. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in summer when water temperatures rise to 26°C (78.8°F). In the winter, a spring suit might be best as temps drop to about 21°C (69.8°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
