Located on the Wild Coast of South Africa, Devil’s Horn is an excellent right-hand reef break that offers up some incredibly heavy barrels in a super remote location. This wave is dangerous and far away from help, so if you are not confident and skilled, it can go badly here. The waves break for up to 150 meters (492 feet) over a shallow rock bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Devil’s Horn?
Gets good from overhead to triple overhead plus. We recommend riding a step-up and then gun as the size picks up. This break is good for advanced surfers only. The surf here usually has something to ride (5/10) and will be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in summer when water temperatures rise to 26°C (78.8°F). In the winter, a spring suit might be best as temps drop to about 21°C (69.8°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
