Located in Sutherland, Scotland, Melvich is an alright left reef set-up that offers up some decent sections for manoeuvres when the conditions line up. The waves here can be a little tricky to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a rock bottom. There are also some decent low tide sand bars by the river mouth.
What are the best surf conditions for Melvich?
Gets good between waist high and overhead, can’t handle too much size. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North, Northeast, Northwest, and West. Works on high tides.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 here year-round. Water temps rise to 13 degrees in July before dropping to 7 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
