Located in Sutherland, Scotland, Strathy is a quality beach break that offers up some good fast waves perfect for performance manoeuvres. The waves here are not always easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. The river mouth can make a good left sandbank at times.
What are the best surf conditions for Strathy?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North, Northeast, Northwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 5/4 year-round here. In summer the water temperatures rise to 13 degrees before plunging to 7 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
