Located in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Escollera Sur is a big right-hander that breaks on the south side of the entrance to the port. Swells hit with full force creating a good big wave set-up. The waves here are not easy to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Escollera Sur?
Gets good between overhead and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard, then step up, then a rhino chaser as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will usually have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the East, South, and Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
