Located in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Mariano is an excellent left-hand, barreling reef break that throws out slabby, hectic tubes. The waves here are heavy and break for up to 100 meters over a rock reef. Popular with bodyboarders and expert surfers.
What are the best surf conditions for Mariano?
Gets good between chest-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will never have too many people on it (5/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells are from the East, Northeast, South, and Southeast. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
