Located in Costa Verde, Peru, El Cabezo is a fun left-hand point break about 4 kilometres (approximately 2.5 miles) offshore on an island. It will be rippable when on. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters (about 328 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. There are no regular boat rides to the island, so ask some locals to take you out.
What are the best surf conditions for El Cabezo?
El Cabezo gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard and then stepping up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will be uncrowded if not empty (2/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 22°C (about 72°F). In the winter, a 3/2 wetsuit is best when water temperatures drop to 16°C (about 61°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
