Located on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, Pupukea is a fun stretch of beach/reef break that offers up some fast, high-performance walls when the sand lines up over the volcanic rock. The waves here are not the easiest to surf but break for up to 100 meters over a rock and sand bottom. Not as crowded as the other better known breaks in the area.
What are the best surf conditions for Pupukea?
Gets good between chest-high and overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will get busy but not too often (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North and Northwest. Works on a mid to low tide usually but depends on the sand.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round as water temperatures range between 27 ad 24. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
