Located on the North Shore of Oahu, Alligator Rock is a fun reef break that offers up some powerful walls when the right swell hits. The waves here are challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a lava rock reef. Locals will show up when it is good.
What are the best surf conditions for Alligator Rock?
Gets good between chest high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step-up as the size picks up. This break is good for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the North or Northwest. Works best on a mid-tide.
Boardshorts or bikinis are good year-round here. Water temperatures range from 24 to 27 Celsius. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
