Located in San Mateo County, California, Pomponio State Beach is an alright beach break that offers up some decent sections when the conditions line up. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom. Needs a small, clean swell to really be ridable.
What are the best surf conditions for Pomponio State Beach?
Gets good between waist-high to overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will generally be uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a low to mid tide.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer and a 5/4 in the winter. Water temperatures range between 15 and 10 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
