Just South of Mavericks on the inside of Half Moon Bay in Central California is the Princeton Jetty. Princeton Jetty is not a bad jetty break that wedges over a rock and sand bottom. There is a mediocre beach break to the south of the jetty itself. The waves here off the jetty can be a bit tricky, barreling from take off for about 50 meters. The beach break is simple to surf, and good for beginners.
What are the best surf conditions for Princeton Jetty?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. A longboard will work great when it’s small (most of the time) and a shortboard will be best when it starts to hollow out. The wedges to the north of the beach are best for intermediate and advanced surfers. The beach break to the south is best for beginners. The surf here is not very consistent (4/10) but will be insanely crowded on most days (10/10). The best winds come from the Northeast and the best swells come from the Southwest. Barrels on lower tides.
We recommend wearing a 4/3 in the summer here when water temperatures rise to 15 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to around 12 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
