Located in the Southern Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, Rags Right is an excellent but highly dangerous right-hand barrel. The wave stands up ultra-fast and delivers long and wide barrels over pretty much dry reef. Obviously, this is a wave that requires respect and skill to ride, breaking for up to 100 meters over that sharp coral bottom. This is probably the sketchiest wave on the Ments, the earlier you get in the safer.
What are the best surf conditions for Rags Right?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here or a step up as the size increases, although locals will say to prioritize control of your board over length. The surf here is not the most consistent (5/10) and will have a small crew on it when it is breaking (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Southwest. Any tide but low is good.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. In the summer water temperatures rise to 29 degrees before dropping only to 25 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
