Located in the Southern Mentawai Islands, Indonesia, KFC’s is an excellent right-hand reef break, little brother to Macaronis, that offers up long rippable walls. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 150 meters over a coral bottom. Sits on the opposite side of the bay from Macaronis.
What are the best surf conditions for KFC’s?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is pretty consistent (6/10) and will get busy but nowhere near the same as Macaronis (5/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. In the summer water temperatures rise to 29 degrees before dropping only to 25 in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
