Located in the Northern Mentawai Islands, Nipussi is a quality reef break that offers up an easier right than the terrifying Bank Vaults nearby. This spot is usually good for ripping turns but can offer up some zippy tubes at the right time. The waves here are tricky to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a coral bottom. A good spot for intermediates to get their chops up.
What are the best surf conditions for Nipussi?
Gets good between waist high to double overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step-up as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get busy at peak times, but can offer a less crowded option when the swell really starts pumping (5/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures rise to 29 degrees in the summer and drop to 25 only in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
