Bali’s easiest barrel, Bingin is a short, mechanical left-hander that wraps predictably around the Northern corner of the reef front in front of the Bingin cliffs.
Surfing Bingin is fun at almost any size and most tides except dead high, where it fattens out. At dead low and sub-head high, it can become treacherous and shallow. However, at most tides and sizes, the wave will barrel from takeoff followed by a fast, highly smashable section and then another barrel section before it closes out. Bingin’s almond barrel is surprisingly easy to make.
Due to its quality and proximity to Bingin’s cliff front, Bingin is always heavily crowded and with a takeoff zone about the size of your kitchen table, the line-up is tense and prone to hassling.
Like most Balinese, the locals are wonderful and friendly people but don’t bother trying to takeoff inside them even if it’s your turn. They have Bingin wired and will take off much deeper than anyone else can and still make it.
