Located in Asturias, Penarrubia is a left-hand reef break that offers up some good walls for manoeuvres and the occasional barrel. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf well and break for up to 100 meters over a rocky reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Penarrubia?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard when the size steps up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers. The surf here sometimes has a wave (4/10) and can get crowded when it is working (8/10). The best winds are from the Southeast and the best swells are from the North, Northwest, and West. Works best on a mid to low tide.
We recommend wearing a springsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temps drop to 13 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
