Found in Maroochydore, Queensland, Australia, Pin Cushion is a mediocre beach break that relies on its sandy bottom to deliver waves. The waves here are pretty straightforward to surf and break for up to 100 meters allowing for hollow barrels and sections for turns.
What are the best surf conditions for Pin Cushion?
The bars here start working between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend a longboard for the smaller days and a shortboard or step up when the swell picks up. All levels of surfers can find something here, although with size its not the best for beginners. The surf here is consistent (7/10) but will be insanely crowded (9/10). Good swells come from the Northeast, East, and Southeast. Pin cushion works on all tides. Offshore winds come from the Southwest.
Boardshorts or bikinis are the attire for the summer with water temperatures sitting at around 25 degrees in January. In winter a springsuit is best for the 19 degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
