Located in New South Wales, South Coast, Guillotines is a quality right-hand reef break that offers up a sketchy, shallow barrel for the very brave or skilled or stupid only. The waves here are heavy and dangerous, breaking for up to 100 meters over basically dry slabs. The rewards are big here, but with broken boards and bones almost guaranteed on wipeouts is it worth it? You decide.
What are the best surf conditions for Guillotines?
Gets good between head high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or step-up when bigger. This break is suitable for advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not consistent (4/10) and will usually have a crew on it (6/10). The best winds are from the Southwest. Works on a Southeast swell that is macking. Works on all tides but of course lower is a bit crazier.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 21 degrees. In the winter a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
