Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, Pringle Bay is a fun beach break with a left-hand reef on the southern end. The waves here can get heavy when bigger and break for up to 200 meters (656 feet) over a rock and sand bottom. There’s a heavy rip down the middle of the break, and it can be sharky.
What are the best surf conditions for Pringle Bay?
Pringle Bay gets good between waist-high (1.2 meters / 4 feet) and double overhead (4.6 meters / 15 feet). We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard then stepping up as the size picks up. This break is good for all levels of surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (5/10) and will generally have a crew when it is good (5/10). The best winds are from the Southeast. The best swells are from the Southwest and big. It works best on a mid-tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19 degrees Celsius (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15 degrees Celsius (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
