Located on the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, Gordon’s Bay/Bikini Beach is a fun left point break that offers up a fun little wall with a bit of power on take-off but not much else. The waves here require a bit of skill to surf and break for up to 300 meters (984 feet) over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Gordon’s Bay/Bikini Beach?
Gordon’s Bay/Bikini Beach gets good between waist-high and overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is good for all levels of surfer. The surf here is not consistent (3/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are really big and from the Southwest. It works best on a mid to high tide.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 wetsuit in the summer when water temperatures rise to 19°C (66°F). In winter, a 4/3 is best when temps drop to 15°C (59°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
