Located in Northern Baja, K38/38.5/39 is a set-up of a point break and two reefs. K38 offers up long barrels to the right over a rocky bottom. K38.5 is just South in the bay and offers a similar ride. K39 is a more offshore reef that breaks left and right and has been known to barrel. The waves here are all challenging and can barrel or be performance-based.
What are the best surf conditions for K38/K39/K38.5?
Gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller, then shortboard then step up as the size picks up. These breaks are suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10). K38 will be very crowded, the other two less so (5/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing board shorts or a bikini in the summer when water temperatures rise to 31 degrees. In the winter a 4/3 is best when water temperatures drop to 16 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
