Located in Punta Hermosa, Peru, Pico Alto is a quality big wave reef break that offers up massive lefts and rights when the big swell arrives. The waves here are dangerous and will slam you into the boulders if you fall, breaking for up to 100 meters (about 328 feet) over a boulder-covered bottom. Head to Playa Norte and paddle out about 1 km (about 0.62 miles).
What are the best surf conditions for Pico Alto?
Pico Alto gets good between double overhead and tow-in size. We recommend riding a gun or tow board here. This break is suitable for advanced surfers only. The surf here does not break very often (3/10) and will be uncrowded (2/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to about 20°C (about 68°F). In the winter, a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 16°C (about 61°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
