Located in Punta Hermosa, Peru, La Isla is a small island off the coast that offers up a reliable reef break peak, serving up high-performance sections on the rights and soft walls on the lefts. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters (about 328 feet) over a rock bottom. The island is linked to the mainland by a causeway, so access isn’t too bad. There are some other spots in the area, specifically a heavy water reef a bit out to sea, good for training for bigger waves.
What are the best surf conditions for La Isla?
La Isla gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard then step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will always have a crew, especially on weekends (7/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the South, Southwest, and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summer when water temperatures rise to about 20°C (about 68°F). In the winter, a 3/2 is best when water temperatures drop to 16°C (about 61°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
