Located in Punta Hermosa, Peru, El Silencio is a fun right-hand reef break that offers up some sucky barrels when the conditions line up. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters (about 328 feet) over a rocky and sand bottom. The rocks are sharp and covered with urchins and barnacles, rips are common, and the lineup is often disorganized. The beach and town are party central, eat some great food and mingle with beautiful people when you’re done surfing.
What are the best surf conditions for El Silencio?
El Silencio gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard when smaller and a shortboard and then a step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is somewhat consistent (6/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the Northwest, Southwest, West, and South. Works on a mid to high tide best.
We recommend wearing a spring suit in the summers when water temperatures rise to 20°C (about 68°F). In the winter, a 3/2 wetsuit is best when water temperatures drop to 16°C (about 61°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
