Located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Praia da Macumba is a fun and quality beach break slightly removed from the main beaches of the city. The waves here are challenging and break for up to 100 meters (328 feet) over a rock and sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Praia da Macumba?
It gets good between chest-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard, then a step up as the size picks up. Longboarders like the peaks in the middle of the beach; short boarders prefer the edges. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get busy at peak times (5/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South and Southeast. It works on a low to mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summers when water temperatures rise to 26°C (79°F). In the winter, a spring suit will work when water temperatures drop to 21°C (70°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
