Located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Arpoador is an excellent point break that offers up good quality, hollow lefts off the point when the conditions line up. The waves here are challenging and break for up to 200 meters (656 feet) over a sandbar created by the currents. The rest of the beach can also get good, but the point is the main attraction.
What are the best surf conditions for Arpoador?
It gets good between waist-high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard, then a step up as the size increases. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will get insanely crowded (9/10). The best winds are from the Northeast. The best swells are from the East, South, and Southeast. It works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summers when water temperatures rise to 26°C (79°F). In the winter, a spring suit will work when water temperatures drop to 21°C (70°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
