Located in Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, Baia da Rata is an excellent point break that offers up some classic rippable and barreling walls when it does break. The waves here are difficult to surf and break for up to 200 meters (656 feet) over a rock bottom. You’ll need a boat to get here, as the 2 km paddle is not recommended due to shark activity.
What are the best surf conditions for Baia da Rata?
Gets good between waist-high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard if smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced-level surfers. The surf here is not the most consistent (4/10) and will be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the South. The best swells are from the North and Northwest. Works on a mid-tide best.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year round. Water temperatures vary between 29°C (84°F) and 27°C (81°F). See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
