Located on Long Island, Western New York, Tobay Beach is an average beach break that rolls over a sandy bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf, breaking for up to 150 meters providing powerful sections for turns and hacks.
What are the best surf conditions for Tobay Beach?
Gets good around head high to overhead. A longboard will work when smaller but a shortboard is best when there is any size in the water. Beginners thru advanced surfers will all find something to surf here. The surf here is pretty consistent (7/10) and usually pretty uncrowded (4/10). The best winds are offshore from the North and Northwest. The best swells come from the South or Southeast. Works on all tides depending on the sandbars.
Boardshorts or a bikini will work in the summer when water temps rise to 23 degrees. In winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 wetsuit, hood, booties, and gloves when water temps drop to 4 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
