Located on the Eastern side of Long Island, New York, Turtle Cove is an excellent but sectiony point break that reels down a boulder and sand point. The waves here are straightforward to surf, and peel for up to 100 meters providing sections for manoeuvres and sometimes barrels.
What are the best surf conditions for Turtle Cove?
Gets good from waist high to triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard here. Intermediate and advanced surfers are best suited to this spot. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and the current usually disperses any crowd (4/10). The best winds are offshore from the West. The best swells are from the East, South Southeast, and Southwest. Best tide is mid.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 23 degrees. In the winter we recommend wearing a 5/4 hooded wetsuit with booties and gloves in the 4 degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
