Located on Long Island, New York, Flies is a fun beach break that breaks over a sand bottom. The waves here require a little bit of surf know how to surf well, and break for up to 100 meters providing great sections for manoeuvres or cruising.
What are the best surf conditions for Flies?
Gets good from waist high to overhead. A longboard will work great here when the surf is small, but a shortboard is best when there is some size. Beginners thru advanced surfers will find spots on this beach. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and will be super crowded in the summer and holidays (9/10). The best winds are from the Northwest. The best swells come from the East, South, Southeast, and Southwest. This beach picks up everything. Works best on low to mid tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 23 degrees. In winter a 5/4 with hood, booties, and gloves are necessary in the 4-degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
