Located on Long Island in New York, Ditch Plains is a fun, mellow reef that breaks over a boulder and sand bottom. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 200 meters. The left breaks more often and is chill and mellow for longboarders. The right sometimes breaks and is fun and bowly for manoeuvres.
What are the best surf conditions for Ditch Plains?
Gets good between waist high to double overhead. A longboard works best for the left and a shortboard is best on the right. Beginners thru advanced surfers will all have fun here. The surf here usually has a wave (5/10) and is always insanely crowded (10/10). Offshore winds come from the Northwest. The best swells come from the East, South, Southeast, and Southwest. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini in the summer when water temps rise to 23 degrees. In winter a 5/4 with hood, booties, and gloves is necessary in the 4 degree water. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
