Welcome to the island of Nias, a tropical mystical step back in time. Lagundri is a horseshoe-shaped bay on the southern end of Nias. The classic right of Lagundri Bay goes by various names, from generally, “Nias,” to specifically, “The Point.” Unless it is huge, the reef is fairly forgiving compared to other spots in Indonesia. There is a convenient break in the reef called “The Keyhole,” that provides an easy paddle out. The Nias take-off is predictable and there is not a drop of water out of place as the almond shape barrel peels at the perfect speed for up to ten seconds. The crowd can get thick at times, however, there are several other close by spots, that can also help thin it out. Nias is great because it is consistent breaking all year long with light winds. It handles all tides, and the light seaward current from the channel drops you right back off at the peak!
