Located in Nias, Indonesia, Afulu is a fun reef break that offers up a good left-hander perfect for ripping turns and hacks as well as the odd barrel section. This is the spot to be when other places are maxed out. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a coral reef.
What are the best surf conditions for Afulu?
Gets good between waist high and triple overhead. We recommend riding a shortboard or a step up when it gets bigger. This break is suitable for intermediate and advanced level surfers. The surf here does not break often (3/10) and will generally be uncrowded (3/10). The best winds are from the North. The best swells are from the South and big. Works best on a mid-tide.
We recommend wearing boardshorts or a bikini year-round. Water temperatures rise to 29 degrees in the summer and drop to 25 only in the winter. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
