Located in The Severn Estuary, Wales, Porthcawl (also known as Rest Bay) is a fun beach break that offers up some great peaks for manoeuvres. The waves here are pretty straightforward to surf and break for up to 50 meters over a sand bottom.
What are the best surf conditions for Porthcawl (Rest Bay)?
Gets good between waist high and double overhead. We recommend riding a longboard here when smaller and a shortboard as the size picks up. This break is suitable for all levels of surfer. The surf here is consistent (7/10) and will always have a pack on it (7/10). The best winds are from the East. The best swells are from the Southwest and West. Works on all tides.
We recommend wearing a 3/2 in the summer when water temperatures rise to 17 degrees. In the winter a 5/4 is best when water temperatures drop to 8 degrees. See the temperature chart below for more data on this.
